Brett here. One night, when we lived in our little apartment Independence, a big storm knocked out our internet modem. It was plugged into our surge protector and everything, but somehow it got fried anyway–even though everything else that was plugged in there was fine. I called AT&T, our internet provider, and they informed us that our warranty had run out 5 days ago. They said we would have have to buy another modem for $75. Unfortunately, we couldn’t afford to drop that much for a new modem. I reached out on the company’s Facebook group to see if there was any way they could help us with this situation. Somewhere in all of this I just prayed that we’d be able to get a new modem without spending all that money. An employee followed up with me about my Facebook post and concluded that he didn’t know for sure if the storm was the reason the modem died or not, so he would get a new one sent to us for free. In fact, the one we had was an outdated version, and he would send us a better model. At no cost to us!! I was so excited! Our new modem would arrive in about 5 days. So the employee suggested we should go buy a modem from a store with a good return policy to get by until the new one arrived.

Later, on the way home from running errands, Nannette stopped by a garage sale. As she looked around, she called me to see how my day was going, and I filled her in on the current situation. We shared the internet with our neighbor and didn’t want him to be out of internet while we waited for the company to send the new one, so she said she would go get a temporary modem. As she browsed the tables of garage sale items, right there was an AT&T modem in perfect condition for $2. It was exactly what we needed! What are the odds that she would be at a garage sale where they were selling an AT&T DSL modem the morning after our internet went out!? It’s got to be astronomical! She bought it, and I walked her through the setup (which is pretty impressive–how many wives do know that would feel comfortable messing with a modem’s default settings to reconfigure them?) It all worked great! I said a thank-you prayer to God for blessing us with a really cheap modem to get us by. Now we would have a backup if something ever went wrong again. Once again, God had proved that he cares about even the little things in our lives!
